“I like my clothes to be tight enough to show I’m a woman, but loose enough to show I’m a lady.” Mae West
Who knew that Mae West and the Apostle Paul could be thinking along the same lines?
“I like clothes,” Paul says, “that show we’re new people in Christ.” “Wear clothes,” Paul tells us in Colossians 3-4, “that show people that we are Christ-followers - that Jesus is in us, that we are new creations, that we are seated with Christ.”
We saw yesterday three ways to “wear it well.”
1. Wear it in our words. “Let our words be full of grace, seasoned with salt...” We committed to speak words that were as irresistible as a “Lays” potato chip. “Betcha can’t eat just one!”
2. “Live Like You Were Dying.” By the way, great job on this song, Brandon Monsanto. Paul put it like this: ‘Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders. Make the most of every opportunity.'
Shawn Askinosie presented to us an opportunity to help feed hungry kids, empower people to help themselves, and to get a great chocolate treat! You responded to that particular opportunity, and as a result, 42,075 kids will be fed for a year. Yes, you read that right! Way to go!!
3. The must-have fashion trend? LOVE. “And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all purpose garment. Never be without it.” (Colossians 3:14 The Message).
It is love that distinguishes a person as a Christ-follower (John 13:35). The purpose of the church is not to build impressive buildings or write well-reasoned doctrinal statements. The purpose is to produce people who love God and love others. If The Venues is that kind of church, the angels will rejoice. If not, then nothing else matters.
Thank you for helping to make The Venues “that kind of church.”
See you Sunday at 10:00! If not before...
